Fry Release:
In April through May - 2009, depending on
the size and quality of the fry at our hatchery on Nelson Creek, chum
and coho fry are released into West Vancouver Creeks. We will
announce dates when the fry tell us they are ready for the
creeks!

Surveys:
Surveys start about October 15th and
continue to the end of December. Students from West Vancouver
Secondary School assisted in this program again in 2008. Surveys are
taken on a weekly basis throughout this period. Streamkeepers

Egg-take:
Every year West Vancouver Streamkeepers
work with the Tenderfoot Hatchery (DFO) at Squamish to gather chum
salmon eggs for our hatchery at Nelson Creek. We always welcome
volunteers for this fun job. West Van & Bowen Island's annual
chum egg-take was at Tenderfoot Hatchery - Saturday - Nov. 15th - at
10am. Bowen's coho egg-take took place on Saturday December 13 at
Tenderfoot. We've noticed in lower chum escapement years, the run may
come earlier.
Creek Work
Throughout the year we may call for
volunteers to assist in invasive plant removal or planting of native
species in riparian areas along our creeks. This will primarily be in
the fall or spring months.
