simple ways to protect a stream
Maintain natural stream conditions
- remove man-made litter from stream banks and beds
- leave natural materials undisturbed (nature is not always tidy)
- respect fish and other wildlife
- remove invasive plant species
- plant and encourage native species shrubs and trees near streams
Prevent harmful substances from entering the stream:
- remind contractors working on your home and in your neighbourhood that storm drains empty into streams
- participate in Storm Drain Marking programs – the yellow fish is a reminder that storm drains flow into fish-bearing creeks
- warn others against putting harmful liquids that can drain into local streams such as cleaning compounds, detergents, oils, paints, pool and hot tub water
If you have an interest in a local stream we can provide support and information and
direct you to resources.
Come and join any of the exciting programs of the West Vancouver Streamkeeper Society !
